Sports Massage is a form of massage involving the manipulation of soft tissue to benefit a person engaged in regular physical activity. This physical activity does not just have to be a sport it can be an active life style of working, going to regular fitness classes just day to day living can become a sport in its self. Naturally our everyday life style especially the fast pace that we live at in today's modern world creates imbalances, aches and pains and soft tissue disfunction.
What is soft tissue I hear you ask? Soft tissue is connective tissue that has not hardened into bone and cartilage and includes skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia ( a form of connective tissue). Sports massage is designed in assisting with problems and imbalances in soft tissue that are caused from repetitive and strenuous physical activity and trauma. The application of sports massage, prior to and after exercise, may enhance performance, aid recovery and prevent injury. The healing aspect is not just the scientific effects of speeding up the repair process, restoring mobility but also helping the athlete relax mentally promoting a positive effect on their confidence and their preparation for competitions. The added relaxed state and sense of well being can also reduce tension and anxiety,
Here are some of the benefits of Sports Massage after exercise: the release of muscle tension and pain, improved drainage of waste products such as acetic acid and carbon dioxide, reduced discomfort from DOMS as a result of vigorous exercise, improved posture and flexibility.
Each session is 90mins, the treatment will start wth a postural assessment and will be re-assessed at the end of the treatment.

About Stephanie and her Sports Massage Journey
Stephanie is a fully qualified Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist (Dip), Yoga Teacher (CYQ/REPS III,Dip) in Hatha, Yin (Yoga Alliance), Vinyasa and Nidra, SUP Yoga and cycling foundations Instructor. Her wellbeing and fitness writing has been published in Woman Alive, Cycling Weekly and Om Yoga & Lifestyle Magazine.
It was in pursuing her love over years for long distance marathon running, swimming and surfing combined with enjoying an active sporting lifestyle had brought with it, like all passionate athletes unfortunately injury. Stephanie has experienced firsthand the benefit of sports massage and yoga within her own recovery and fitness maintenance. It is often what has become broken transforms into our greatest tool and gift. When we experience brokenness and injury we learn the benefit of the body's true natural healing, the importance of regular maintenance when we are healthy to keep balanced and the art of surrender to the expert that is helping us to heal.
Learning from her physiotherapist, massage therapist and going to workshops with osteopaths inspired her to continue her study as a Yoga teacher to become a Sport Massage Therapist. Stephanie is passionate about helping people get back to being their natural selves with a balanced mind and natural functioning body. Recovery and growth is individual to the person and when working with the body patience and surrender is required along the way.
Over time Stephanie has gained experience with working with a variety of different bodies and ages. Her focus has now developed towards those clients who take part in general exercise, sporting activities and professional athletes. Yoga and Sports massage are for all there are no limits to who can benefit if they approach with an open mind to trying something new. Her interest in the moving body, anatomy and how it functions, learning about the fascia lines, the form & function of muscularskeletal system and how can we maintain that natural functional movement keeping mind and body balanced. Stephanie always works with the whole self, with her knowledge and natural body awareness she is able to tailor the massages to your needs.
